π 1 Year of PII: $123k in Distributions +Lessons
One year ago, I shifted my strategy to focus heavily on passive income. As shown in the image, the portfolio generated $123,308.69 over the past 12 months, hitting a record $9,595.41 CAD this May. While the cash flow is incredible, navigating this space has come with massive learning experiences. Here are my top takeaways: Chasing Yield Can Bite: Hunting for the absolute highest yield often leads to NAV erosion. Income means nothing if your underlying principal is being destroyed. Single-Stock Volatility is Real: Funds like $MSTY or $MSTE offer mind-blowing payouts, but they hook your income to a single volatile asset. They are great for boosting yield, but they require strict position sizing. Anchor with Broad Ultra-Yields: Balancing aggressive single-stock plays with broader funds like $HDIV or $QQCLprovides the stability needed to protect capital while maintaining high cash flow. Moving Forward: Year two is all about optimization. I'm keeping the cash-flow machine running, but with a sharper focus on total return and protecting the capital that generates the payouts. Thanks to the PII community for the insights this year. Letβs see what year two brings! ππ
