Same story, different day
Anyone remember March? Bond yields jumped as conflict with Iran flared. We were told it would be short-lived. At the same time, Ottawa promised quick answers on Canada-U.S. trade talks.
Four months later, we're on the doorstep of August with little visible progress and the same promises being made. Meanwhile, Canada's 5-year bond yield is right back where it was in late March (near 3.25%). For mortgage borrowers hoping for mortgage rate relief, this week's move higher is a reminder: lower rates are far from guaranteed.
