Swapped 700 Cenovus for 1,500 Whitecap & 4K Cash 💰
Minor RIF portfolio adjustment Sold 700 $CVE Cenovus Energy @ 42.12 to Buy 1,500 $WCP Whitecap Resources @ 16.92 This frees up 4K cash 💰 and increases my yearly dividends by $480 Both are Conviction Buys & the move is done just to rebalance allocations within the RIF 👍🏻 If there is going to be a takeover, which I don’t invest for, it will be WCP as it’s a lot easier to swallow 😂 Happy Black Gold investing!

Hi Edmond: I really like that when you post things, you give me food for thought. Your dividend argument is something I need to also think about. Whitecap Resources currently pays $0.0608/month, or about $0.73 annually per share. Cenovus increased its base dividend by 10% in 2026 to $0.22 quarterly, or about $0.88 annually. So CVE actually pays more dollars per share, but because WCP’s share price is much lower, WCP has the higher yield — currently around 4.3–4.4%, versus roughly 2% for CVE. You probably already know this but please correct my thinking. I see Cenovus as a much larger, integrated energy company. It has oil-sands production plus refining and upgrading assets, which gives it a different risk profile from WCP. And CVE is producing a tremendous amount of cash. In Q2 2026 it returned $1.4 billion to shareholders, including $1 billion of buybacks and $400 million of dividends, while also increasing its 2026 production guidance. Do you think that a take over of WCP would be a bonus for us as investors? WCP itself just completed the huge Veren combination, creating a substantially larger company. In other words, WCP isn’t exactly sitting there as a tiny, easy acquisition anymore. I currently hold approximately 1400 CVE and 2500 WCP. As well as some other Canadian oil names. Will you be continuing to down grade your CVE position in favor of WCP?
