Definitely painful to see how much this has affected my portfolio, but I’m never selling. It happens. The best advice I’ve gotten from 5 years of investing is: “You only lose if you sell.” Guess what! I’m never selling!! Maybe it will recover one day. It was 10–15% of my portfolio and I took the risk. Worth it. I’ll make it back. $MSTE and $BTC will go back up. Don’t panic, guys :) Happy investing!

Never sell is only partly right. Never sell only applies to good companies. Never sell only applies to good ETFs. People forget about opportunity cost. Basically, if you have your money in a bad investment, you are missing out on a good investment. So, your cost has to also include the missed opportunities from a better investment. In other words, can you take the same money you have in a bad investment, put a good investment and do better. And everyone has to answer that question based on data and beliefs. Just remember though, hope is not a good investment strategy.

I personally don’t agree with “you only lose if you sell.” What happens when an investment goes down 99% and gets delisted? Is that not a loss? If a company goes bankrupt, is that not a loss? I’m not sure if MSTR will recover or not (BTC will need to rise significantly for this to happen), but regardless, you’re giving up a lot of the recovery by being in MSTE instead of MSTR. I believe if btc recovers, and it will, this will be the last time we see mste at such low prices. New ceiling upon the horizon.

That's the worst piece of advice you ever received 😅. Especially in a registered account, there is no penalty for selling a position so quite literally whatever it is worth today is what it is worth today. There's no catch. You can sell it and put it into something else without it showing up on your taxes whatsoever. So no, you've already lost, and you need to decide if you want to lose more or try something different. There's no "locking in" the loss, its already gone.
