Good morning and happy Saturday! I was folding laundry and putting it away for my family last week and I stopped mid-fold, staring at a drawer stuffed with socks. 𧌠We have 2 feet. TWO. And yet somehow I counted over 40 pairs of socks in that drawer alone. Thatâs the moment it hit me, this is consumerism on autopilot. We buy without asking âdo I need this?â We accumulate without noticing. And the money we could be investing quietly leaks out into stuff we donât even use. This reminds me of David Bachâs âLatte Factorâ the idea that a $5 daily coffee doesnât feel like much, but invested instead over 30 years, it can grow into six figures. Itâs never really about the coffee (or the socks). Itâs about awareness. Small unconscious spending adds up to real money that couldâve been working for you. Hereâs the shift: stop paying everyone else first and yourself last. Flip it. đ° â Pay yourself first, automate a transfer to your investments the day you get paid â Then bills â Then discretionary spending with whateverâs left When investing comes first, spending becomes intentional instead of automatic. You start asking âdo I need this, or do I just have space in my cart/closet/sock drawer?â Redesign the flow. Let your money build your future before it funds your clutter. đ Whatâs your version of the sock drawer, the thing you have way more of than youâll ever need? Drop it below. This is not financial advice, always DYOR. đą

In my younger years as I was trying to build up a financial cushion I was very aware of what was needed & what we wanted, I balanced giving my daughter enough joy ( fun clothes, toys & memberships) with being frugal myself in terms of clothes, used furniture, packed sandwiches etc I put every penny I could towards buying my first home then towards paying off the mortgage without sacrificing my daughters needs & wants. I donât regret it. Although investing into the markets would have propelled my success faster & now that Iâve reached that point I do allow myself to buy the silly wants too as life is about balance.

It feels like youâre talking to me directly. I have a BIG problem with sporty equipment: T-shirts, yoga pants and jackets. All colours, most of them black, with and without pockets and hoods. Crazy! This morning Iâm made a promise to myself to not visit clothing department till 2027 although I could skip the next 5 years easily without the need of new ones. Good post.

Absolutely agree. My hubby has lost weight, and the amount of pants and ďżźshirts that will be going to homeless vetâs etc is at least hopeful going to a good cause. Interestingly we both have a drawer full of socks. I have a closet full of work clothes that I havenât opened in 2 years. How life changes and thought we did laundry regularly!!!

I am planning to go through my wardrobe, donate what I dont use or need and start keeping a minimalistic approach afterwards.
