I want to say this first: I respect everyone’s strategy. Different goals, risk tolerance, timelines, and portfolio sizes all matter. But I’m genuinely trying to understand this. I see some people holding: 20+ ETFs 30+ ETFs 40+ ETFs And personally… that feels like a lot to me. I get diversification. And all types of diversification beyond just underlying holdings. But when do you stop? Wouldn’t compounding hit harder if you focused on your highest-conviction 5–12 holdings instead of spreading every contribution across so many positions? So I’m curious: Is this sometimes just shiny object syndrome? Because I get it… finding new exciting holdings is fun 😅 Or is there a deeper strategy behind holding that many? Income smoothing? Risk control? Sector exposure? Peace of mind? Would love to hear from people who hold a lot. Where do you draw the line between diversification and overcomplication? I currently only hold 7.
