AI Isn’t Taking Over. It’s Plugging Into the Grid
The fear narrative says AI is an existential threat. Capital markets say it’s infrastructure. Look at the signals: • Alphabet is expanding hyperscale data centers in energy-rich regions. • Meta is securing advanced chips from both Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices to guarantee compute supply. • Microsoft is redesigning infrastructure specifically for AI-scale workloads. • OpenAI and Anthropic are raising capital at industrial-scale valuations. • Power demand is being discussed in multi-gigawatt increments, city-level electricity. And then there’s Nvidia. Nvidia has posted record-breaking revenue growth over the past year, driven largely by data center demand. Its earnings aren’t fueled by consumer gadgets, they’re fueled by hyperscalers and AI infrastructure orders. That’s not speculative behavior. That’s customers deploying real capital at scale. If this were just hype, you wouldn’t see exploding data center revenue, long-term chip commitments, and grid-level power planning. You’d see buzzwords. Instead, you’re seeing buildout. The question isn’t whether AI will disrupt things. It’s whether you’re watching headlines, or watching where billions in physical infrastructure are actually being installed.

@retired while I have a lot of respect for you, I want to comment. Over a year ago, I’ve made various comments about how fundamentally the world will change with Ai. All I got was pushback from twenty something’s about how crap ChatGPT was… Truly, no one knows where all of this will lead to. However, we are seeing the fastest development of intelligence ever seen. This isn’t technology. This is intelligence. Already, 80% of code can be produced in the hands of a skilled software engineer, and we’re only starting. I could show you mind blowing work where hundreds of Agents work together to tackle a project, and new mathematical formulas are being produced a human would never have conceived of, and atomic structures we wouldn’t have imagined. We are on the advent of something so profoundly different than our view of technology. The biggest technology firms are in the midst of the largest arms race in human history for a reason. It’s existential to them. The financial collapse of the Soviet Union pales by comparison to what is going on right now. I personally don’t believe the selloff in traditional software is overblown when startups now will be able to produce newer less cumbersome software from scratch vs older technology with legacy applications stitched so many ways to Sunday they can no longer trace the source code. We are living in THE most interesting time in history one way or another, we are truly not prepared for what’s to come.

Im curious how they're going to build out the energy infrastructure. Building/enchancing transmission lines takes years. I can see this being a massive bottleneck for AI so im still skeptical.

Sure, this isn’t hype, it’s the foundation of the next economic era being built in real time. 🤨

I’m with you, this doesn’t feel like hype. When companies are locking in chips and planning power in gigawatts, that’s real money being deployed. For me, that’s why I lean toward the physical layer, $AMAT$LRCX$BE. If AI is infrastructure, the pressure shows up in fabs and on the grid first. The productivity payoff is still the question. But the buildout is real no doubt.
