Born to see GREEN🟩
What a day for the markets. I'm just so glad I took a screenshot of my portfolio to remember this for the ages. The S&P 500 had a record-breaking day, finishing above 7,700, up 1.79%. The Nasdaq had an even better day, jumping 2.6%. After being closed Monday for the holiday, Canada's TSX composite rebounded mightily to finish the week up 1.63%. There's green everywhere, and it's just delightful.
The thing that tempered my celebration this evening was comparing the returns of the two TFSAs I have. The one that I manage myself and in which I carefully choose every stock purchase has climbed 19.11% for the year. However, the one that I set-and-forget with Wealthsimple's algorithm-driven investing is doing even better at 27.50% for the year.
Eight points of "Wow, that's really smart" for the passive, diversified investing in the managed account, and I'm just glad I'm not in my own head when it comes to choosing stocks for my TFSA. I'm sure there's a lesson in humility here, possibly a realization that boring diversified ETFs really do beat concentrated stock picking over the long haul. Probably both. Did anyone else's set-it-and-forget-it account beat their own DIY portfolio?
