💵 Dividend Investing Still Makes Sense in Your 20s

A lot of people say young investors should focus only on growth.

I get it. The Growth on something like $SCHG is great

But I still think ETFs like $SCHD, $VIG, or $VDY can make sense while you’re young

You get great quality companies, growing dividends, and income you can reinvest

I’m not saying dividends should be your whole portfolio. I personally am building about a 10% allocation

I just don’t think you have to wait until retirement to care about them.

I always tell people to invest in whatever keeps you investing. If you get excited about those dividend hitting your account, and thats what helps you continue investing, invest in those dividend stocks. If you get excited tracking your total return, and that keeps you investing. Invest in total return. Whatever keeps you going is the right answer

I’m holding off until I’m in my mid 40’s and/or have a million in my portfolio. Until then ETFs like VTI/VOO will provide the returns on average that I’m aiming for.

It’s all depend on individual. If you want to retire early in your late 40s or mid 40s then dividend investing is the right choice. If you want to wait till you in you’re 50s and shift toward dividend. It’s going take a lot more effort and money and you probably have to sell some of your growth etf or stock to fund the dividend

I disagree, a focus on dividends doesn't really make any sense.

The only thing that matters is total returns. Especially across a 40+ year time span.
