My biggest investing regret was taking on risk before really educating myself. I started with only individual stocks, moved into penny stocks, and eventually traded options based on someone else’s chart analysis—without actually knowing how to read the charts myself. Although my portfolio reflects positively on those decisions overall, I see the value in ETFs now and wish I had built a stronger ETF foundation from the start- building up ETF position now.

Not taking the time to understand how to 'truly invest' before starting in the late 1990's... I started during a period much like today, when 'stocks went up because of course stocks go up'. A couple years in, I learned that valuation matters and I learned it the hard way... For better or worse, I didn't have much invested so my losses were minimal (relatively speaking), although at the time it was A LOT for me. If the run would have lasted longer, I likely would have made bigger mistakes. While today isn't a carbon copy of the DotCom era, there are a ton of similarities and much like me then, I think a lot of newer investors will learn some expensive lessons at some point.
