Unplug and Reconnect
My microwave starting acting up. The cook times were off, the clock was frozen, and sometimes it wouldn’t stop running.
I found the manual and the first step was simple… unplug the unit, wait about 30 seconds, and reconnect to power. I did exactly that and just like Dr. Frankenstein, I brought my microwave back to life!
That small fix got me thinking. Sometimes we all just need a break to reset. So I decided to do the same thing for myself.
I’ve been feeling a lot of anxiety lately from constantly checking the news, watching my investments, and scrolling through social media. It was draining. So I followed the microwave manual’s advice and unplugged for two weeks. No news, no investment accounts, no social media. Just me focusing on my mental health.
The first few days were hard, but slowly I felt the anxiety wash away. I found myself not caring about algae in the Reflection Pool. I didn’t feel the need to track every candlestick of 60 different ticker symbols. I actually spent real time with my family and friends without being distracted. And I realized my portfolio would be just fine without me hovering over it every day.
So now, I’m back… mentally refreshed and I have a new goal: keep my finances in perspective instead of letting them consume all my energy. Sometimes the best investment you can make is in your own peace of mind.
