The last 12 days have given me a small taste of retirement, and it’s made me think. I’ve been camping with my family. Nothing extravagant. Just slowing down, enjoying nature, spending time together, and taking a break from work. It reminded me why I invest. So many of us spend our time looking for the next great investment, trying to earn a little more, find an edge, or maximize our returns. But how many of us have actually taken the time to figure out what we’re investing for? Not just a dollar amount. A real retirement plan. What does retirement actually look like for you? How much income will you need? What kind of lifestyle do you want? Will you travel, volunteer, spend more time with family, or simply enjoy mornings with a coffee by the lake? There’s a big difference between chasing wealth and building a plan that supports the life you want to live. For me, these last couple of weeks were a reminder that investing isn’t the goal. It’s the tool that helps make that future possible. Question: Have you ever sat down and built a retirement plan, or are you still focused on growing your portfolio without knowing what you’re actually working toward?

My plan for retirement hasn’t changed, just the timing, will be sped up. Instead of 55 I’m looking at between 50 and 52. I still have young kids at home, so that will be fun, but my wife’s health took a turn, or we found out about it right before my youngest was born 2 years ago, and waiting too much longer is no longer an option! The plan will now start out with spending whatever good years she has left, and showing the kids that money isn’t everything, when the one you were supposed to share it all with may not be there. I want to do that for her, and show our 3 kids that we really did try!

EXACTLY! This is why I laugh when people are concerned that I am "capping my upside" with a Covered call ETF portfolio. It's not about how well the portfolio is doing, it's about how well I'm doing, and how well the portfolio can serve me and my needs - that need right now being retirement 😁👌

This Group is so inspiring. Just going through the chat realizing how much is actually enough when you turn 60 or infact when you chase FIRE. I started pretty late in investing ever since I moved to Canada in 2021. Me and my spouse are actively investing in TFSA. Do not earn high income however doing 1000 a month in total in etfs. I love travelling and camping. Thank you 😊
