I look at this chart and I want to laugh, partially because of my own ignorance and partially because of the worlds. All my life, I’ve heard of these famous stock market crashes as well as the fear driven by the stories warning us about investing in the market. And now as an adult seeing this chart it makes me think. “Dang I wish I had seen this at 18 when I was first interested in the stock market!” I feel as a long-term investor, we should welcome a market crash. not fear one. For those rare investors with the ‘right stuff’ such as liquidity and, most importantly, the temperament and emotional fortitude to withstand extreme uncertainty in the form of untethered volatility and frightful headlines/rhetoric, market crashes are ideal conditions to create considerable wealth. I’ve been through several of these extreme volatility scenarios since the late 90s and it is very difficult to maintain confidence in the plan when everything around you suggests the world as we know it is going to be permanently disrupted- the reality is that great businesses will survive and thrive eventually. I harp on the behavioral aspects of investing more then the spreadsheets and numbers because investors can be geniuses during peace times and bull markets but implode when bear markets declare war. Market crash is great. It's a great opportunity to buy. You just feel sad that you couldn't sell at the peak. And buy back at the bottom. But if you think about it. Market crash makes You more Money.
