Apparently I Forgot to Take Pictures After getting home from BlossomCon, I realized something. I barely took any pictures or video. In fact, the pictures I’m sharing with this post are mostly of the swag and gifts I came home with. And there’s actually a reason for that. I didn’t even get a chance to look through the bags until I got home. That’s when I found the really thoughtful gift and handwritten card from the @blossom Blossom team thanking me for being part of the panel. So before anything else, I really want to say thank you to the entire Blossom team. Not just for the gift, but for inviting me to be part of the panel and for everything that went into putting BlossomCon together. It was my first BlossomCon and I really didn’t know what to expect. Once I got there, the day just disappeared. Between meeting people I’d only known through Blossom, being part of the panel and just talking to people throughout the day, I don’t think I stopped. Before I knew it, it was over. I barely recorded anything, didn’t take nearly enough pictures and didn’t spend as much time checking out the booths as I’d hoped. But you know what? I’m actually okay with that. I was too busy talking to people and enjoying the experience. And when I think about it, that’s probably the best way I could have spent my first BlossomCon. I got to take a lot of those connections I’ve made online and actually meet the people behind them. And I also came home thinking about some of the things I heard from the speakers and conversations I had throughout the day. I learned some things. And isn’t that really part of the reason we go to something like this? Speaking of those online connections, I also realized my profile picture wasn’t doing me any favours. Hat. Sunglasses. Half my face covered. So I changed it. And then I figured I might as well change my YouTube profile picture too. So if you’re wondering why my face suddenly looks different around here… you can blame BlossomCon. Now I need some help. For those of you who actually remembered to take pictures, I’d love to see them. If you’ve got pictures from BlossomCon — especially if I happen to be in any of them — throw them in the comments. Apparently I’m going to have to crowdsource my BlossomCon photo album. But there’s something else I’d really like to hear about. What did you learn? Maybe it was something one of the speakers said. Maybe it came from a conversation you had. Maybe somebody said something you completely disagreed with and it made you go home and learn more about it. And even if you weren’t at BlossomCon, same question: What’s something you’ve learned recently that made you think differently about investing or your finances? Because for me, that’s what financial literacy is really about. If you’re just following what I or someone else is doing and copying it, are you really learning? Ask why. Challenge yourself to understand it. You don’t have to agree with me. You don’t have to agree with anyone else here either. Sometimes being challenged or disagreeing with someone is exactly what makes us go learn something new. I always say I’m just a regular Canadian who thought it was too late to start investing. I started anyway, and I’m proving every day that it’s never too late to build wealth. And I absolutely believe that. But the more I learn, the more I realize that before we can build wealth, we need to build our financial literacy. So thank you again to the entire Blossom team for an incredible first BlossomCon. I may not have come home with many pictures of my own… but I definitely came home with a lot more than I arrived with.
