Right around 5 months into my income investing journey and I’ve finally achieved barista fire / semi retirement at only 28 years old. From this point moving forward I will only be working 6 months out of the year as a freelancer and taking the other 6 months to focus on trading, personal development, and protecting my peace. Today marks day one of my 6 months off living in the Philippines 🇵🇭. My distributions are now enough to cover all my living expenses and still leave money to reinvest. This goes to show you that investing isn’t black and white you can invest in different things to achieve different goals don’t ever let the noise throw you off of your mission. Since I’ll only be away 6 months at a time I’m still a resident of Canada and on a tourist visa here in the Philippines. I have around half of my holdings in my TFSA with drip on and the rest in a margin account. I pull cash from my margin to cover expenses and let the distributions pay down the margin every month (my monthly distributions in the account are greater than my monthly expenses). That way a portion of my distributions are reinvested and a portion of my distributions are covering my expenses. I don’t have a Filipino bank account I pay my rent & utilities via wire transfer and use my Wealthsimple debit card/ cash for day to day purchases. So on paper it’s structured more like a very long vacation than retirement.

CONGRATULATIONS! This is actually the same path that I would like to have as well. May I ask, how does it work for your TFSA and other investments? Are you still eligible with it, and does it still consider that you are a resident of Canada? How do you live off it, do you transfer the dividends, withdraw, or do something else and put it in a filipino bank? SORRY TOO MANY QUESTIONS! I am amazed and would like to take the same path. And heyy, I am Filipino, and so happy for someone to consider the Philippines as a place that you could protect your peace at. There’s also a lot of Trading community there so good for you! Following your journey onwards!
