Last week, Alimentation Couche-Tard ($ATD / $ANCTF) announced that they are expanding further in Canada, picking up a chunk of retail and cardlock sites from Irving Oil across Quebec and Ontario. Breakdown of the deal: • The Assets: Taking over 50 retail sites in QC (locations they already operated under a partnership) plus a couple in eastern Ontario, alongside 18 commercial cardlock sites for truckers. • Fuel Supply: The agreement also covers fuel supply to another 71 $ATD owned retail spots in Quebec. • The Price: Undisclosed for now, and still needs regulatory approval under the Competition Act. It seems that this deal makes complete sense strategically, deepening their presence in familiar markets they know inside and out instead of chasing risky or expensive cross-border deals. For DIY investors like us, if you like ATD's growth but prefer index investing, you already hold it passively if you own broad Canadian market ETFs like $XIC, $ZCN, $VCN, or large-cap funds like $XIU. How are you guys feeling about $ATD on your watchlists right now? — This is for informational and discussion purposes and not financial or investment advice.

My main question / thought with this company is whether they’re overpaying for all these acquisitions and, more importantly, whether they’ll generate a good return on them and actually create long term value for the shareholders..
