I dont understand holding both at same time. Theres approx 85% overlap. Holding same canadian companies in 2 different etfs. Dont need to overcomplicate things. Just pick 1 below. $HAL $TQCD $XEI $XIU

I would argue broader diversity is needed for a true long term strategy

Time = Growth; Retirement = Income. Shoot hard for growth then convert to covercalls that have min nav erosion. Depends if in reg or non-reg accounts. I find it confusing and stressful; my biggest holding is a meh fund not found on blossom, if I was younger and had more time I’d be a Bogelhead. First thing one should do is develop a thesis, which I’ve done but after many mistakes, then know why you hold it and avoid de-worsification. There is no magic secret, investing & time are your two greatest assets. No debt, emergency fund then invest

One pays more in distributions and one pays less. One has higher mer and one lower mer. I also hold them two in my TFSA equal weighting. HDIV is more diversified than XDIV selected top 20 stocks. Depends on what you want out of them. Both beats the all in one funds in the 5 years... Xic xiu. This is your Canadian exposure to your neighbors which historically performed better.
