Hi everyone, I’m looking for constructive feedback on a proposed Canadian non-registered portfolio. The objective is long-term growth while keeping a meaningful defensive allocation and reducing the risk of investing the entire amount on one day. I’m considering a six-month staged buy-in. Proposed allocation $VFV — 25% U.S. large-cap equities $VCN — 25% Broad Canadian equities $XEF — 20% Developed international equities $XEC — 10% Emerging-market equities $CBIL — 10% Government of Canada T-bills $VSB — 5% Short-term Canadian bonds $CGL.C — 5% Physical gold exposure This produces an allocation of approximately: • 80% equities • 15% fixed income and T-bills • 5% gold The defensive sleeve is intended to provide liquidity, reduce the need to sell equities during a downturn, and provide funds for rebalancing. The gold allocation is capped at 5% as a diversifier rather than an income producing investment. I’m not looking for personalized financial advice, just thoughtful feedback on the structure, risks, costs, tax considerations and implementation.
