$HDIV is one of those ETFs that needs very little introduction in the Canadian income-investing community. A 9.70% annualized yield. Monthly distributions. 25% leverage. But what are you actually getting when you buy HDIV? The fund holds primarily Canadian sector covered-call ETFs, aiming to generate attractive monthly income while maintaining long-term capital appreciation. And the performance caught my attention. As of August 31, 2026, HDIV had delivered a 19.7% annualized total return since inception, including distributions. Hamilton also reported that it had outperformed the S&P/TSX 60 by 4.17% annualized since its July 2021 inception. So I did a full deep dive. How is that yield generated? What are you actually holding? What role does the leverage play? And does HDIV make sense as a long-term income investment? I break it all down in my our new YouTube video. Full HDIV deep dive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvgS8gq5iW8 If you own HDIV, I’m curious: are you holding it primarily for the monthly income or for total return?
I have gotten HDIV and XDIV at the same time back in May 2026 but my numbers are skewed as I sold off some XDIV for PAYG which was a bust.. I've been adding them of late so now my allocation is same and my % is lower cuz of that. XDIV performed better but HDIV distribution is nice in my TFSA if you get my reasoning.

It’s outperformed $XDIV and all of its other contemporaries. Short track record, but that’s pretty impressive.
