FYI. Just to cut through all of the fake news and fear mongering being circulated. We actually have our own oil on the East Coast. Our Newfoundland brothers have 4 offshore oil field platforms. Hibernia, Terra Nova, White Rose and Hebron. That oil is sold on world markets, which could be redirected to east coast refineries if the need comes to it. Our Irving refinery in Saint John has a deep water port so ships can be offloaded from wherever around the world. In fact that refinery has more than enough capacity to supply not only eastern Canada but also a large chunk of the eastern seaboard of the USA.

Canada has zero official gold reserves because previous governments deliberately sold them off and invested the money in liquid, interest-bearing foreign assets instead. It’s not because Canada doesn’t have gold. Canada is one of the world’s major gold producers. If the government decided gold was strategically important again, Canada has the financial capacity and domestic mining industry to rebuild a reserve relatively quickly. It’s a policy choice, not a lack of resources. I don’t think I’d agree with it but this decision was supported by all Canadian governments since Trudeau father.
