My $179.09$SCHD dividend just landed in my Roth. But I'm not $179.09 richer. A dividend isn't free money — it's the ETF handing me back part of what I already owned, in cash. The share price drops by the same amount. Think of it like moving money from your left pocket to your right pocket. I used it to top up: SCHD is now at 675 shares, $IDVO at 87. Did you get a SCHD dividend? What did you do with it? Stock cards: https://www.simplysafedividends.com/?affiliate=dapperdividends

Thanks for reminding me. Just logged in and reinvested all my dividends. Working towards a 100k position in this. SCHD all the way

What did I do with my $SCHD dividend? The same thing I’ve done with every dividend since December 2011, I reinvested it… Appreciate you educating those that don’t know how dividend distributions work. Cheers Russ…

Not etf specific. Every dividend paying stock drops on ex dividend day by the amount of the payout.

But. Doesn't the share price generally go up again, as much as the dividend, and then higher? I mean, they don't make the distribution and the share price stays down. Right? So your total position goes up, even if you don't DRIP...yes?
