I’ve been working towards a full ETF TFSA for a while now. The last “simple” change was to sell the $GOOGL shares and reallocate. I had already gotten ridden of or reallocated all previous individual stocks. Every time I try to make a simple change to my long term portfolios, I end up spending days and weeks over thinking it. It gets a bit better each year. But my min-max mentality can send me into an optimization spiral that consumes me. I use 2 different brokerages still, so this adds a layer of complexity. For WealthSimple in particular, they still don't have Norbert's Gambit yet. So I don’t want to do any sort of CAD/USD conversions. Which can be limiting. I love $GOOGL, so I don’t want to reduce my allocation by much. I don’t have enough contribution room in my RRSP to make this one-to-one xfer. Nor do I have that much cash anyways. GOOGL shows a nice ~200% gain in my TFSA 📈. Which I do like looking at, but this should not paralyze me from performing reallocations. Also I couldn’t help but notice GOOGL was one of the few red stocks the past couple days. Even though I know it's miniscule, it makes me feel queasy selling GOOGL when it's red, to buy $QQQM when it's been green. Today Google popped ~2.3%, so this helped me ignore this silly detail. The “Simple” Change: 👉 Sell 64x GOOGL in TFSA 👉 BUY ?x GOOGL IN RRSP 🔸Step #1 → how to reallocate the USD proceeds in TFSA? I thought about moving it mostly into $VTI . This was my “established” plan for a couple weeks. But now it's all going into QQQM. So no VTI at all in my TFSA. I already have VFV. The idea of having both VTI and VFV is perfectly OK, but I’ve opted for only 1. 🔸Step #2 → how to buy GOOGL in RRSP? The main reason for pivoting away from VTI is that I need to sell a big chunk of the QQQM in my RRSP to have funds to buy GOOGL shares. Since I still want to maintain my overall weight in QQQM. I also had to sell 1 share of $META . As a side effect, I will only be buying 42 shares of GOOGL in RRSP. So I’ll be going from 122 shares to 100. With GOOGL’s recent runup this is also okay because my overall portfolio allocation to Google was a bit high. (Note: Not including allocations from ETFs). Plus my OCD loves the looks of "100" shares. Now, I'm still debating on how to rebalance QQQM in my RRSP as part of a greater rebalance. My internal debates lead me to the discovery of $IAUM , which is a lower fee version of the $IAU I already hold. So obviously I need to switch to that. Anyways, my TFSA is now 100% ETFs! 👏 $FBTC $QQQM $SOXX $VFV $XIC $XEC $XEF And, $IBIT , which is orphaned over in QT since I can do Norbert's gambit there. This will eventually be reallocated into index ETFs like VFV/VTI. At some point it will be xfered over to WS account with a promo (or maybe a new broker). Cheers 🍻
