nothing against BLOX. I still like the fund and still have it in my RRSP. It makes up around 19 percent of my RRSP. I had it in my margin account. I sold it to buy HBTE more for tax purposes and to reduce the margin interest charge. Both funds have 50 percent margin requirement so the switch was much easier than if they both had 2 different margin requirements. Borrowing money in USD for me is 7 percent vs 4.5 percent for CAD in wealthsimple. BLOX distribrutions for me always had 15 percent withholding tax which takes away from total return and limiting the amount to reinvest. This also limits my buying power and available amount to withdraw. Total return and distribution yield are 2 different things. Higher yield doesnt mean high total return. Even if i do get high distribution yield and it pays down the margin faster, the lesser total return limits amount to withdraw cash. The distributions I got from US listed ETFs in my margin account were taxed as foreign income which got me an expensive tax bill last year. The distributions from HBTE according to Harvest Portfolio website in 2025 was taxed as capital gains. I am not how much it will lower my taxes for 2026 until I work on it. https://youtu.be/56Rrn_2ZPB8?si=hW8A4V_OJ_pJ0QLx
