Nickel and Diming (What Would You Do?)
Gonna go on a little rant here on Blossom.
I’ve been in a relationship with my wife for 12+ years. Over all those years, her sister-in-law has been invited over countless times, meals, overnight stays, holidays, buying her meals at restaurants, you name it. We’ve always graciously hosted. Not once in all that time has she ever reciprocated. Which honestly is fine, we enjoy hosting and being generous.
This past Christmas week, we had their whole family over again. Fed everyone, hosted them overnight. At one point, her sister went to grab a jug of milk and even asked if we needed anything else from the store. We thought, “Hey, that’s nice.”
Right before leaving, she says: “Oh, you can e-transfer me the $6.07 for the milk.”
My jaw almost dropped to the floor. My wife wasn’t even planning to pay her back, considering the fact we fed her the entire 2 days.
Then she followed up two days later asking again for the $6… and again today.
At this point it’s not about the money, (my dividends cover 150 jugs of milk a month) it just feels like a slap in the face after years of generosity. How would you handle this? Anyone ever dealt with these types of situations before? Also to add, the sister in law is not struggling by any means, not well off but not poor also. Just bought a house this year for herself too.
Edit *Wife ended up paying the $6 to her, and had a frank conversation with her about it. Told her we dont expect anything from her but also dont expect her to Nickel and Dime on small things. She apologized and said she didnt even realize she was doing it. Said she won't in the future.** I'm glad she had that convo haha. Thanks for the advice everyone, there was lots!!!! I love Blossom.
