The hardest trim of my investing journey
Last week I trimmed my ASML position and it felt awful.
It was my biggest winner, the stock that carried me when it was almost half my entire portfolio. Using that money to buy S&P Global felt like giving up on the thing that got me here.
Then ASML dropped a record quarter this morning... and the stock still fell. I'm still long ASML — it's one of the best monopolies in the world — but I had to trim it to buy what I see as a more appealing and underappreciated business in S&P Global.
I'm still very much a beginner, but this week taught me something: it's not about being loyal to a stock, it's about being honest about your risk.
