I'ts an honest question. I used to think, Im an investor when my investment total return is higher then my yearly wage. I still dont consider myself an Investor. Im also still pretty far from that goal. That will not stop me from twiddling my mustache as I look at my 7 shares of $BLK ..... I also own in large part Just indexes ($XEQT and $VEQT) I dont nessisarally think that makes me an investor as much as it just makes me a market participant. So today as I sit in a 1.5 foot tall crawl space doing sheet metal beside my new homie Fred the spider..... I have a hard time saying "Im an investor". At what point would you be proud to call yourself an "investor" to your friends?

The definition of "investor" is a person that puts money into a financial venture, business property or security with the expectation of making a profit or interest. So anyone putting money in the stock market is, by definition, an investor.

Thw first dollar that went into the market made me an investor because most folks have $0 dollars in a brokerage.

I think once you start thinking about what stock you're going to buy instead of what new toy you're going to buy is when you start being an investor. I don't know if I would put a monetary threshold on it, more like a mindset.

With the amount of people my age (25-30) I personally know that DONT invest, Iโd consider anybody with even a dollar invested to be an investor. Something like half of Canadians have a TFSA, and among those, only more than half of again own a single share of a company. (My numbers are probably off quite Iโm at work typing this out ๐)
