I’m currently 29 and I have an aggressive goal to reach $1M invested by the time I’m 40. I currently have about 144K invested and this goal assumes I contribute $1,250 bi-weekly and an annual return of 9% (including the compounding from the regular contributions). One milestone I’m personally looking forward to is when my portfolio growth is growing more than my contributions. I call it the “Compounding Crossover”. For me, that number is when I reach a portfolio amount of $376,503 which should happen in about 4 years. Of course, 9% is not guaranteed but this is what I have in my plan. For now, I’ll keep buying $XEQT (and some smaller ETFs) every paycheque and stay consistent. Has your portfolio reached the point where its growth is doing more work than your contributions?

Within 1.5 years of investing, my TFSA reached an all-time high return of 27.54%, and in just 20 months, its value grew to over $100K above my total contributions. 📈 I’m mostly self-taught, after getting some initial investing advice from one of my husband’s coworkers. Still learning along the way, but definitely proud of the progress! 😊

Knowing your crossover point is priceless. Once you know your portfolio contributes more than you they you can start making the lifestyle decisions to slowly say yes today (to all the events/ ppl/ things you had to say no to while your contribution made the bigger impact)

At one point my 1.5yr return was 50% but then oil and gold sold off. My ytd so far is 16.4%
