$SCHD pays me TODAY. 3%+ yield, real cash in my pocket. $VUG pays me LATER. Growth compounds, the yield is tiny. I own $SCHD for the income. It feels good getting paid. But $VUG has crushed it over 10 years. Hard to ignore. Income now or growth later? Which one are you picking?

I'm not willing to assume the next 10yrs will look like the past 10yrs. Case in point... In the 12yr period ending in 2023, total returns for $SCHD and $VUG were nearly identical and that includes a 3-4yr period where VUG significantly outperformed. With that in mind, I'll continue investing in both ($SCHG being my preferred growth ETF) and SCHD, choosing to add when one of the other is out of favor. I wouldn't be surprised at all if SCHD outperforms over the next 5-10yrs.

I always reinvest. I have a pretty good career so thankful I don’t need to take the cash *knock on wood*
