15 year old needs help 🥲

I want to start dipping my feet in ETFs…

My mindset going into beginning my research is to figure out the (however many) main sectors there are, and sort of go from there so I can see how and where the money is coming from before doing anything else - this idea came from what I learned at #blossomcon !!

Therefore, a couple questions:

1. What are the main sectors I should focus on
2. Is this a good starting point to begin with
3. If not, how would you go about it

You’re 15, so congratulations on starting so early, but I think you’re approaching this wrong. If by “main sectors” you mean any sub-category that could fit into a wider set, like how semiconductors, software, and hardware are all considered “tech”. You can find most if not all of these categories on blossom already! However at such a young age, 99.9% chance if you dollar cost average into a broad ETF like the S&P 500 ($VFV $ZSP) you will outperform nearly everybody on this app, or at least it’s the smartest approach while you take a few years (yes years) to learn more about the stock market. You have room to make mistakes, but the less you make the better, so please stick to ETFs until you know much much more. And not too many, 2-3 ETFs is plenty. It may be boring, but I promise you will get the most success out of your time this way

I would suggest using the ETF category to get suggestions and help for ETFs as a good starting point.

To figure out all the types of sectors and industry, you can use Yahoo finance screener, then use the dropdown under "sectors" and it shows you list. After selecting a sector you can choose an industry - which is another list.
You can also goto finviz.com and select "maps" you'll see all the type of sectors visually, you can also use the screener.
