I've been away from my regular posting routine for a while. Other projects took most of my time, and the daily cadence slipped. Not gone, just busy elsewhere. The thing taking up most of my head right now is the CFA. I'm seriously weighing whether to go for it. Three levels, years of study, and a real opportunity cost on the hours. The case for it: a structured framework, a credential that carries weight in finance, and a forcing function to learn what I'd otherwise skip. The case against: it's a long grind, and plenty of people in this industry got ahead without it. What I want to hear is from people who did it, quit halfway, or skipped it on purpose. For those who've been through it: what did the CFA actually change, your career, your edge, or nothing? 👇

Go for it. If you are already spending hours every day online analyzing markets and discussing finance, you owe it to yourself to professionalize that passion. Earning a credential like the CFA elevates you above the retail noise, unlocks access to institutional networks, and transitions you from an amateur commentator into a respected industry insider. You shouldn't want to spend your day online doing things for free and entertaining people who want things for free. Wish you the best

There is a CFA foundations certification that you could do that gives you a pretty good understanding of what to expect and it is not very expensive or that time consuming about $300 and maybe 6-8 weeks or so to finish One of my best learning experiences TBH

It likely depends on the industry and position. I worked for asset managers but really only did a handful of Licensing Courses (CSC, Derivatives, Options). These were the bare minimum to get a foot in the door and from there experience, work ethic/success and networking took me to level I wanted to reach. I likely would have had further opportunities had I gone further with either CIM or CFA but choose a work/life balance that worked for me. If you have the energy, motivation and brains the CFA (or any continuing/professional education and accreditation) will never be negative so worth pursuing if you are looking to push through ceiling and maximize your opportunities. 👍
