Choose your life partners wisely!
Hey guys 👋
Here is another long thread 🧵from yours truly.
Topic : Money & the life partner you chose.
This past week, with the help of the S&P 500 reaching new highs, my spouse and I reached a new milestones in our financial independence journey.
Our investment portfolio hit a record combined $2 million dollars in our wealth simple accounts.
Coupling that with our primary residence and a rental property this pushes us in the $2.5 million+ net worth in our 30’s.
To preface, neither of us had an inheritance, neither of us made 1000% return on bitcoin, this is 15-20 years of working, saving & investing in our careers, real estate & stocks AND not touching our investments to buy things we don’t need along the way.
If you saw our car ( 2014 Honda civic with 200’000km on it) or our home (builder grade town home in the suburbs of Toronto) you wouldn’t think we have all that much money to our name. We’re pretty unassuming.
Appearances can be deceiving — some people look wealthy while struggling financially, while others live simply despite having great wealth. I’m sure you know people in both categories.
I digress…
Now, we also didn’t “just save” all our money over the years & do nothing. It’s a balance of needs, responsibility & also having fun. We’ve gone on vacations across the world, we’ve eaten at Michelin star restaurants, we’ve given money to friends & family in need etc.
I have to say, doing it with two people is a lot easier than doing it alone. The partner you choose in life will determine your success or failure, so do make sure to choose your partners wisely. (Marry for money ideally..I mean love)
Make sure you are aligned on everything, especially when it comes to making, saving & spending money.
Having said that, money will not solve all your problems. And take it from me. Health, family, personality disagreements, what to eat for dinner tonight…all these problems do not magically disappear. But having money does make living day-by-day a lot easier.
I’ll leave it at that for now.
Key takeaway : Marry the right person!
Otherwise it might cost you 50% of your portfolio.
Bye 👋
