The number of 'investing lessons' I've come across over the years is too numerous to count. With that said, here are 5 lessons I've embraced which I believe made me a pretty good investor (feel free to tell me otherwise). * Embrace Quality - The core of my portfolio was built with high-quality stocks. Why? They tend to drop less during bear markets and recover quicker and outperform longer during bull markets. True quality based on fundamentals, not quality just because you say so. * Embrace Contrarianism - If you follow the herd, you're likely going to overpay. Why? If you think for yourself and buy quality stocks when they're out of favor, you're likely buying with a margin of safety. Don't be different just to be different, but don't hesitate to embrace differing opinions when it makes sense. * Embrace Humility - If you don't embrace humility on your own, the market will teach you the hard way. One of the simplest ways to stay humble is to remind yourself that you don't know, what you don't know. * Embrace Simplicity - I invest in things I understand... Why? Far too many overcomplicate their portfolios and/or invest in assets and/or investment vehicles whose structures they don't truly understand. Do you understand how that CC or Leveraged ETFs are structured; do you REALLY? * Embrace the Long-Term - It's possible to make big profits over the short-term, but the truly life-changing returns almost always come from buying high quality stocks & holding for the very long term. This doesn't mean buy & forget, it simply means buy & hold as long as it makes sense. Why am I sharing this? Much like most of my posts, it's based on what I'm seeing in my Blossom feed. 'Way too much speculation, following the herd, arrogance & complexity while thinking one year or even less is long-term. Don't get me wrong, I'm guilty too from time to time, falling prey and breaking a couple of these myself. Do any of these hit home for you?

I have backround in nuclear research, chemical engineering and now software engineering and AI. So you can see from my stocks i concentrate in those areas. Mining and shipping too are highly connected to chemical engineering so i have those in my portfolio too.
