Full Honesty Up Front I am long $MU, with several short-dated positions that need a boost. Instead, they experienced two consecutive red days following a headline: CXMT, a Chinese memory maker, claims a new cell design called 4F2, causing the entire memory trade to sell off as if the cycle had ended. Tuesday’s Closes: - $MU fell another 3.6% to 953, down about 7.4% from Friday, and lost the 978 to 980 pocket on a close. - Korea was worse, with SK hynix down over 10%, Samsung about 7%, and the KOSPI tripping a circuit breaker. - $ASML closed at about 1,718, down 1.9%, ahead of its own report tomorrow. - $TSM held up best, remaining basically flat at about 445. This is the hole I am in, and $ASML on Wednesday plus $TSM on Thursday are the two prints that can fill it, as they hold the industry’s actual order books. Quick RSI Check on $MU: RSI is a 0 to 100 score: above 70 is overbought, 40 to 60 is the middle, below 30 is oversold, and below 20 is panic. Read weekly for trend, daily for the swing, hourly for timing. On $MU, the weekly sits about 58, cooled but not washed. The daily is in the low 40s after two red days, and the 2-day is pinned near zero. Short-term washed, trend not repaired. Repair needs a catalyst. These prints, plus Wednesday’s CPI, are it. Why These Two Decide It: - $ASML sells the machines memory is made with, and this year it projected memory systems growth over 75% on HBM demand. The key math: one gigabyte of HBM consumes about three times the wafer space of normal memory, so HBM orders force triple the machine buying. If $ASML says memory orders are still strong, supply stays tight, and $MU keeps printing. If orders slow, the glut story gains traction. - $TSM is the gateway every AI chip and HBM stack passes through in its CoWoS packaging lines. Its quarter revenue is already out, a record of about $46.7 billion, up 51%, so Thursday is not about revenue. It is about margin, spending, and whether packaging is still sold out. Last quarter, its CEO expressed envy of memory makers and their 86% margins. That is the market CXMT is supposedly about to crack. The CXMT Pushback, in One Breath: Bank of America’s team has been arguing this threat does not hold up, and the facts lean their way. CXMT has shown a design, not production: no disclosed yields, die sizes, capacity, or customer qualifications, and no proof it can build 4F2 at scale. Its DDR5 cost per bit is estimated 30% or more above the big three, and Apple reportedly walked away from its memory over price. Meanwhile, regular DRAM contract prices are still forecast to rise 10 to 15% next quarter, and $MU guides supply tight through 2027 and 2028, with most of its 2027 HBM already spoken for. A lab result is not supply, and supply is what crashes prices. What I Need from $ASML, Wednesday: - Revenue at the top of the guide, around 12 billion euros, with a full-year guide of 43 to 45 billion held or raised. - Memory and HBM called out strong, orders firm, and the plan for about 30% more EUV machines in 2027 stated with confidence. - Services money steady around 2.9 billion euros, the toll on every machine already out there. The same morning brings CPI, so $MU gets two binary prints before lunch. That risk is part of the position. What I Need from $TSM, Thursday: - Gross margin at or above about 66%, high in the 65 to 67 guide despite the new 2nm drag. - The 60 to 64 billion dollar spending plan held. It is the best single proxy for the AI buildout, and a chunk of it flows to $ASML and the memory chain. - Packaging still sold out, expansion on track, and next year talked up, not talked down. What Hurts: - Soft bookings at $ASML, or a spending trim at $TSM. Either one is the oversupply story gaining real evidence. - A hot core CPI on Wednesday. My rate lines stand: a 10-year close under 5.00% is the flip I want, over 5.31% kills the rate side of this trade. - $MU under here has roughly 935, then the round 900. Recovery has to retake levels in order, on closes: 980, then 989 to 1,000, then the 1,011 to 1,020 flip zone. Bottom Line: Neither print settles $MU’s own HBM share fight, that is $MU earnings business, and I am not pretending otherwise. But if the two companies holding the order books say demand still outruns supply, this week was a headline flush in a shortage market, and the memory trade can recover into Friday. If they blink, I am wrong in size, and I will know it from numbers, not headlines. Hope is not confirmation, price still has to do its part, and I am sized like that is true.
