A milestone I’m pretty proud of — we crossed $600,000. When I started DIY investing in April 2023 at 50, we had about $220K. Before I actually sat down and looked, I didn’t even really know what we had. I can’t help but wonder where we’d be today if I’d started paying attention sooner. Just over three years later, we’re at $615K ….60% of the way to our $1 million goal. So what could $615K become by age 60? If we never contributed another dollar: 5% → $840K 6% → $893K 7% → $948K If we stay the course and keep contributing: 5% → $1.48M 6% → $1.56M 7% → $1.64M Of course, those are projections ….the market isn’t going to give us a nice smooth return every year. We’ve seen a 34% COVID crash in 2020 and another bear market in 2022, and we have no idea when the next one will come. That’s probably one of the biggest things I’ve gained over these three years: financial literacy. I’m looking at money, risk and retirement very differently than I did when I started. In this month’s video I share the full portfolio update, our TFSA and Spousal RRSP strategy, tax planning, BlossomCon, and the latest on my covered-call vs growth experiment. I can’t go back and teach 25-year-old me any of this, but hopefully my kids can learn some of these lessons much earlier than I did. It’s never too late to start building wealth. https://youtu.be/oVl_IEi1_I4

Very conservative projections!!! I think I usually use 7-8% .. regardless you’ll be set plus your full pension you’re golden!!! Let me listen to your video as I sip another late (I’m slow in the morning lol ) Okay… listened to it! Congrats on your 15th wedding anniversary upcoming! I also purposely converted cdn-USD currency not to spend in USD but to diversify my currency part of my portfolio 🙏🏻

Yay!!!! I’m in the same boat. I’ve only started self-investing since 2025. My financial advisor did nothing but conservative, balanced mutual funds and did very little growth investments. I can’t believe how if my portfolio (being small anyhow—mainly for the kids RESP) didn’t grow very much, how awful for those who had bigger ones 😔 Those 10 years are lost compounding years my portfolio could’ve done better. C’est la vie. Moving forward, like you, I encourage my boys to invest and with regards to their portfolios, to “DON’T TOUCH IT”, until they are in their 40s, then they can retire possibly. There’s still some good years for us as well, except that we need to focus on wealth preservation. Preparing for the next market crash or severe pull back which is nearing as the market cycle continues. Cheers to you and happy investing 🌸
